Proposed development at Stamford Road – Another Planning Win for the Community in Mossley!

The following decision by the Speakers Panel this morning has been drawn to the attention of the Town Council by Tameside councillor Taf Sharif:

“We have another win for Mossley.

An application to build 4 town houses and 12 apartments on a piece of land on Stamford Road, near to the top traffic lights, was heard at Speakers Panel (Planning Committee) this morning.

Your local Councillors and Mossley Town Council had put in their objections. Councillor Taf Sharif spoke on behalf of the Town seeking a rejection, a resident spoke also.

In line with officer’s recommendation the application was unanimously REJECTED based on the following grounds:

1. Highways safety
2. Residential amenity- overlooking other properties
3. Detriment to the character of the surrounding area

All 3 of your Mossley Councillors and the Town Council do support more affordable housing in the area, but these must be in the right location and with supported infrastructure.  Recent applications I’m afraid would just cause chaos to the town.

We are pleased that the Panel listened to us and sensibly rejected this application.

Best wishes

Taf”

Town Councillor Vacancies filled by Co-option

At the meeting of the Town Council on Wednesday 9 December 2020, the 2 Councillor vacancies (one in each of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Wards) were filled by co-option.

Lancashire Ward

The Lancashire Ward vacancy was filled by Ms Helen Louise Jamison of Stamford Road, Mossley.

Yorkshire Ward

The Yorkshire Ward vacancy was filled by Mr James Hall of Vernon Street, Mossley.

The Town Council had published notices inviting electors to petition for a by-election to take place. In the absence of the requisite number of residents requesting a by-election, the Town Council had the power to co-opt persons to fill the vacancies.

The Town Council invited residents to seek co-option and those residents who expressed an interest were invited to deliver a presentation at the Town Council meeting prior to the Town Council making their decision.

The Town Council now has a full complement of 9 members.

Application for residential development at Brookfields. Application reference 19/00489/FUL

Tameside Council’s Speaker’s Panel (Planning Committee) this morning (18th November) considered the application for the construction of 21 houses on land off Mill Lane.

The application was REFUSED on the grounds of highway safety and loss of residential amenity to residents in the area. The Panel discussion included presentations from Cllr Taf Sharif and Mr David Jones, who opposed the application on behalf other Elected Members and objectors and a representative of the developers to advocate for the development.

The application included a revision which took access from Stamford Road for the construction period, a feature which has caused much concern to local people and discussion from the Panel members.

The applicant does have a right of appeal to the Secretary of State, if they so wish.

The Town Council objected to the proposal in its original form, raised concerns as well over the Ecological survey content and findings and has recently again objected to the revised application.

Frank Travis,

Chair, Mossley Town Council
